REIMAGINING DEPICTIONS OF THE BODY FOR A CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND ARTS FESTIVAL IN AMSTERDAM.
Our ongoing collaboration with WhyNot began in 2012, when we created a new logo and visual identity for their 3rd edition of the festival. Since then we have create posters, flyers, websites, party projections, signage, social media campaigns, videos, animations, illustrations and photography for the main festival as well as their special projects and performances. Festival WhyNot was born as a response to the lack of opportunities for younger performers, artists and dancers in the Dutch festival and theatre scene. They break free from the traditional theatre venues by organising performances in untraditional spaces like gardens, city parks, record shops, art galleries and museums. They also include artists and non-traditional dance and performers, who create more experimental work often mixing technology and performance. It was important that the visual identity reflected this unconventional approach, so instead of using traditional photography of dancers, the body is often portrayed in the digital landscape which allows the breaking free from any physical restrictions, and depictions of the body or gender or race become free from any borders.
